The beginning. The grim and unsightly image of a youth venturing out from the familiar into unfamiliar territory, where the world seems strange and terrifying. Tragic events are likely the antecedents leading to an uncontrollable desire to leave one’s home, whether the home is a ‘s group facility, foster care, or an abusive, or unstable family situation full of toxic stress. The decision to leave is never easy, and there is usually an overwhelming fear of the unknown.
